Russia and the Arab League say they want to broker direct talks

Russia and the Arab League say they want to broker direct talks between the Syrian government and opposition in a bid to end civil war in the country.
Speaking in Moscow that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Kremlin and the Arab League wants to establish direct contact between the Syrian government and the opposition.
The Arab League General Secretary Nabil Elaraby who was also present on the occasion said their priority is to create a transitional government in Syria.
Russia arranged a meeting of several Arab foreign ministers and the Arab league to explore ways and means for bringing violence an end in Syria.
According to the UN‚ about seventy thousand people have been killed in Syria since the since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.
