President Asif Ali Zardari has directed to step up efforts for
developing Benazir Income Support Programme into a comprehensive social
protection‚ poverty alleviation and women empowerment platform.
He was talking to Chairperson BISP Farzana Raja who briefed him on the status of the whole range of BISP initiatives including Benazir Smart Card‚ mobile phone banking‚ health and education services‚ job training‚ accident insurance and interest free financing for the poor and needy.
She said 0.4 million deserving families from Balochistan have been included in BISP and the poverty survey has already been completed in the tribal areas.
The President advised to take up the challenge of seeking the involvement of the private sector as well as international donors for broadening the resource base of the programme and extending benefits to more.
